Memory care has become a critical part of any long term care environment. Although alzheimers often gets the news play, memory care is necessary for many reasons. As we age our ability to remember things may become more of a challenge.

At Homestead Nursing & Rehab our memory care unit has been designed to help residents improve memory using many approaches. By encouraging participation in interesting activities, such as building gourd houses, we promote mental involvement and physical movement.

When words have lost their meaning, our actions must take their place.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?

  1. Our staff is trained to realize that habits of a lifetime can not be changed.
  2. We promote resident abilities rather than disabilities.
  3. A consulting psychiatrist assists in managing the behaviors associated with dementia. This helps to minimize the use of medications.
  4. This quiet homelike environment has eliminated distractions and minimized noise stimulation. There is no overhead paging and this secure unit is set away from the business of the main facility.
  5. We do not try to make residents conform to our schedule or mold, we step into their realities and focus on what they can do rather than what they can not do.
