ACTIVITIES ARE THE HEART OF THIS HOME
The Activity Department is one of the most important departments of any facility. The program must address all areas of the resident’s lives. Physical activity is covered in a regular exercise class and socialization and spiritual needs are met with programs that range from Bible studies and entertainers to movies and van rides. The team organizes small functions for a few to big functions that include more than 200. They make every event seem effortless.
The Activity Director is Carrie Shinaut. She has had this position for 5 years and is working on a Bachelor’s Degree from Doane College. There seems to be a requirement for people who work in this position to be creative, crafty, and filled with ideas for fun things for the residents to do. Carrie loves to fill the lives of our resident’s with fun and enjoyment and they love her for that.
When Carrie isn’t working, She enjoys spending time with her grandsons, Johnathan and Bently. Carrie has been married for 21 years and the Shinaut’s have two sons.
There are some people in the world that bring sunshine and joy just by being around. People like to be around them and know that this person loves to be with them. Cheri Helmink, Activity Assistant, is one of these people; she leads activities and spends her days making the residents happy. Cheri drives the van on outings and helps with shopping adventures.
Cheri is married to Greg. She has four children and two are in the Army. When she isn’t working, she loves to travel, be outdoors and enjoys being with her family.
Combine these two ladies and mix them up with the many residents of Homestead and the name of the recipe has to be “Fun For All”!
